No Pressure.

The Phoenix Open is not a major. The purse is not overwhelming, nor does it take an overwhelming amount of talent to shoot an impressive score. Still, the 16th hole at the Phoenix Open may generate more excitement than any other par three on the PGA Tour.

The stands around the 16th green create an amphitheatre that seats more than 200,000 spectators. Many of these spectators are college students from nearby Arizona State University so, needless to say, the gallery is like one giant party.

Poor shots on the hole receive boos, but not just any boos. Drunken, immoral, taunts that can make even the fiercest competitors insecure. If you don't find the green in one, expect boos. If you fail to tip your hat to the crowd after you find the hole, expect boos. If you three put, expect to be picked on like a helpless school girl. Justin Leonard gave the gallery the finger after taunts were rained down upon him. Seriously.

Still, a great shot can make you a crowd favorite. A Tiger Woods hole-in-one in 1997 sent the crowd into a frenzy. Beer was chugged. Obscenities were screamed. Objects were thrown in celebration.

The most popular golfer at the Phoenix Open is Phil Mickelson, an Arizona State University Alum.
