It seems every year, with the turn of the calendar from March to April, a new hope fills the air of sports fans. Some of the best basketball of the year is played in this first weekend of April. For those who love the great American game, baseball finally emerges from its deep slumber of the the offseason. For you football fans, the all-important draft occurs in a few weeks. Yet, what I look forward to most, is four days of the greatest game ever played. Yes, indeed, the Masters is BACK. For four days every April this means sports fans get to watch on as some of the greatest atletes in the world take on the holy land of golf, the Mecca of the links, the Taj Mahal of holes...Augusta National. Ahh, Augusta, its narrow fairways, lightning-fast greens, and nearly impossible distance have made it the only home for a tournament which seeks to find the Master of golf. With the return of Tiger Woods at perhaps the pinnacle of his career, this year shapes up to be a Masters in transition- with the old guard (i.e Mickelson, Els, Singh) being replaced by the brash and ballistic youth of the game (i.e Villegas, Ogilvy, Harrington). An especially youthful participant this year, Rory McIlroy is hailed as "the Tiger Woods of Northern Island". The 19 year old featured on this week's cover of SI, and featured below, is the pride and joy of the game, the PGA's next hope for our generation. Hopefully they are right. However, The Kettle predicts that Tiger Woods will win the masters over Mr. McIlroy with a score of -8 on his way to a true Grand Slam.
